Join us for a Chair Wash at our Summer BBQ Social!

SCIboston invites you to join us for a wheelchair cleaning and light maintenance event on August 9th, 1-2:30 pm at Woburn/Stoneham Elks.  We will have volunteers with mechanical and therapy backgrounds to assist you in getting your wheelchair spiffed up. At this time, we are only accepting a limited number of wheelchair cleanings. You will be selected at random, and you will be contacted if you have been selected.

This event will be a part of SCIboston's FREE Summer BBQ Social, and we hope you can join us for the whole event. Please make sure that you sign up for the BBQ Social here, as we need a headcount by July 31st. If you have any questions about the BBQ, you can reach out to heidi@sciboston.org

Things we'll be able to work on:

• Your primary wheelchair only

• Cleaning of external frames, wheels, shrouds, hardware, and accessories

• Tightening/Torquing of fasteners (bolts, nuts, etc)

We will also:

• Assess your wheelchair for any potential service needs to bring to your service provider.

• Help you fill out a short Repair Data Form for us to better understand community needs for future maintenance events.

• Have maintenance literature and self-advocacy materials to help you get more in-depth repairs done by your service provider in a "timely" fashion.

Things we cannot work on at this event:
*If your chair is experiencing any of the items below, contact your wheelchair provider.

• Electrical systems

• Motors

• Bearing assemblies 

• Flat repairs

• Spoke repairs

• Fittings

• Cushion issues

• Anything that may void warranties 

We are looking for Volunteers to help with tasks like: setup of workstations, chair cleaning, transfer assistance, and data collection. If you are interested in volunteering, click the button below!
