The Stephen F. Riley Memorial Scholarship
for Continuing Education
The Stephen F. Riley Memorial Scholarship assists individuals with paraplegia or quad/tetraplegia due to a Spinal Cord Injury or Disorder (SCI/D) who demonstrate the desire to further create a better future through education. These scholarships help to assist financially and are reviewed by the SCIbostons’s Scholarship Committee semi-annually to determine the award amount up to $1000. Scholarship disbursements are paid directly to the educational or certification program.

Eligibility:
To be eligible, you must provide medical documentation of your spinal cord injury or disorder.
Paralysis must be due to an acquired Spinal Cord Injury or Disorder from an injury that is traumatic (sudden trauma damaging the spinal cord) or nontraumatic (damage to the spinal cord caused by infection, disease, or medical event). *MS and Spina Bifida are not eligible due to the availability of grant opportunities that specifically support these disorders. Applicants must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, or Vermont.
Programs Eligible for Scholarship:
• Certified educational programs such as colleges, continued education programs, certifications, or licensure.
Application Requirements:
Individuals submitting the scholarship application are required to submit:
1) A completed application. All sections must be completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
2) Medical documentation of your spinal cord injury or disorder.
3) One reference letter from a clinical or non-clinical source.
Please Note:
Scholarships will be awarded twice per year.
Applications received between December 1 and March 31 will be awarded by May 1.
Applications received between July 1 and October 31 will be awarded by December 31.
Applicants are eligible to receive one scholarship per year.
Scholarship money awarded is paid directly to the educational institution or certification program. The scholarship does not reimburse for programs that are already paid for.
Application Procedure:
1. Complete application. Please do not leave any fields blank.
2. Attach the following documents:
-Medical documentation of your spinal cord injury or disorder
-One reference letter (clinical or non-clinical source)
3. You will receive confirmation of the receipt of your application.
4. The committee will review and award scholarships by May 1 and December 1 semi-annually. You will be notified by email as to whether your scholarship has been awarded or declined.
